Open Space

The Mid-Peninsula Open Space District wants to get to know you and your family. This Open Space is funded by your tax dollars and has many fun events to help you hike, bike, explore and get to know the district!

Grand Opening El Corte de Madera Creek Staging Area
Sunday, March 23

El Corte de Madera Open Space Preserve

Join us for a celebration of the opening of the staging area at El Corte de Madera Creek. The area features 65 parking spaces, bike rack, four equestrian parking spaces, sign boards, a connector to Sierra Morena Trail and restrooms. This staging area will greatly improve access to the wonders of El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve–36 miles of trail, coastal redwood forests, rare sandstone formations and a watershed that is under restoration. Join Midpen and the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society to enjoy spring in a beautiful setting for a bird-themed, family event with fun for everyone! A special feature this year will be a focus on birds significant in Asian and Pacific cultures to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage month. Activities include: guided bird walks and geocaching hikes, arts and crafts, hands-on science stations, and live bird presentations.

Each spring, “Woodhills,” the historic home of Fremont and Cora Older, is opened for public tours providing local history enthusiasts an opportunity to learn more about the legacy of Fremont Older and tour the historic home and gardens. Reservations required.
