From April 12-26, 2014 the Ashevillage Institute in Asheville, NC will host a 90-hourPermaculture Design Course led by a veritable who’s who in the field of ecological regeneration.
The course includes 13 instructors, including the co-founder of Permaculture, David Holmgren, who will live-stream in from Australia. Lunatic farmer, lecturer and author, Joel Salatin will present in person.
Water wizard and award winning author of Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands & Beyond, Brad Lancaster, plus a local team of 10 seasoned instructors will all bring their talents.
Participants will learn skills spanning from water systems to appropriate technology, food forests to backyard chickens, soil building to natural building. Conceptual skills like designing in harmony with nature and whole-systems integration will happen through collaborative design projects on real sites in Asheville. Janell Kapoor, founder of Ashevillage Institute, says the class serves several purposes:
“The beauty of permaculture is that it applies to any scenario, whether it be your household, neighborhood or whole watershed. These are real tools for long-term resilience.”
Ashevillage Institute is the perfect convener of such a program. Steeped in years of natural building and permaculture experience, the Institute has become a beacon for nature-based innovation and urban farming in the southeast. Andrew Weil, founder of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, says,
“Permaculture is an idea whose time has come and Ashevillage is a shining example of what’s possible.”
The course can be taken by itself or as part of the Urban Farm School, a 28-week immersive program ingrowing your own food shed. Registration is open. For more information on the Permaculture Design Course, **There is an early bird discount that lasts until February 28th.
