This group of 3600 women and a few hundred men watch endangered areas. Using their brains, gps (global positioning systems) and taking pictures they have made progress in protection. The Bureau of Land Manaagement has been apprised of trail degradation and closed trails. Other areas have benefitted from their dilligence too. They take a pragmatic approach, not and exclusionary one, and thier love of the great outdoors guides them to advocate for the wildlands that need help. Check out their site, get involved.

April 08, 2009 By: Jacqueline Smith Category: Corporate Green, Energy Saving, Events No Comments →

This ”must see” movie is coming to Stanford University, ”Who Killed the Electric Car”  outlines the history, pitfalls and politics of the electric car. Shown Thursday April 23 7pm in the Annenberg Auditorium. There will be a post film discussion by Deepak Ahuja, the CFO of Tesla Motors. How cool is that?

Felix Kramer our hero and founder of CalCars shouldbe there along with Deepak. He has done so much to get the word out on plug-ins, hybrids, and thinking out of the gas pump ….. that our politicians tend to do….EVENT INFO for the film – which is part of the amazing and thought provoking Ethics of Food & the Environment series at Stanford.

This will be a great chance to learn and ask questions. Don’t miss it!

Sponsored by the Center for Ethics in Society at Stanford, they have so many events, take a look.

BAN ATRAZINE

April 02, 2009 By: Jacqueline Smith Category: Corporate Green, Discover earth, Global 3D view, Global Understanding No Comments →

Went to a great science lecture last night at Stanford [spnsored by the Ethics and Society group] about pesticide and cancer, reproductive problems and farm workers especially in corn growing states. THE FIGHT IS ON.  The EPA needs to step up and do something… the EPA caution is costing us health and quality of life.

Atrazine NEEDS TO BE BANNED – –  company safety blurb.

then read the real deal…..

They make the chemical that starts amphibian reproductive [feminizing male frogs etc] malfunction in motion— very scary — and then they make the medicine that is given for the cancer cure. So gross ….

Carbon Footprint for Sonoma Water

April 01, 2009 By: Jacqueline Smith Category: Corporate Green, Discover earth No Comments →

WATER!!! This will become the BIGGEST issue for California. Make sure to “stay in the loop”!

Press Release 4/1/09   Santa Rosa, CAThe Sonoma County Water Agency has identified the size of its carbon footprint for 2007 – a total of 12,460 tons of greenhouse gases – down 46 percent from 23,098 tons in 2006.  The GHG reduction is due in part to SCWA’s Carbon Free Water by 2015 initiative which delivered an additional 2 megawatts of solar to power administration and wastewater treatment facilities.  For that, SCWA will receive recognition at the 7th Annual Navigating the American Carbon World conference.  The conference is a landmark partnership between Point Carbon; the California Climate Action Registry; and the International Emissions Trading Association. SCWA is a member of the California Climate Action Registry.  SCWA Directors Paul Kelley and Valerie Brown will attend the conference today in San Diego to participate in discussions on local and worldwide greenhouse gas reduction efforts.
