Vintage Redwood Furniture

Look at this beautiful rocker! The wood is smooth and has such a rich glow to it.

At Vintage Redwood Company the wood is carefully selected from old wine casks! That glow is a wine infused stain, all the many types of furniture is made from salvaged wine vats.

Jim is located in Visalia, CA. You can check out his site to see the beautiful oak and redwood furniture that has marinated for years in fine California wine. This old wood has a quality and texture that is not readily available today. Learn how it is done and the story of converting wine casks to rockers at Vintage Redwood Company You can see them at the Sunset Celebration Weekend next June.

Green Building Considered

June 25, 2008 By: Jacqueline Smith Category: Green Building No Comments →

Stop the Monster houses! Stop the wasteful tear downs. Learn to repurpse our buildings with a green focus. Constant remodeling and rebuilding is clogging our landfills and destroying our communities. The City of Palo Alto has a list of considerations for Businesses to promote green building.

Green considerations are important in business and for residential homes, so it is a nice start, but does not address the simple truth.  Our value as people does not start with how many spaces for cars are in our garage or how many square feet we have to dust in our homes, or the deluxe office buidling we might rent or build. Practical living spaces, well planned, using non-toxic materials and demanding the most in energy efficiency are needed now. Do you have any ideas about providing green building leadership in our cities? It is sorely needed, get involved.

Whole House Building Supply and Salvage is located in East Palo Alto on 1955 Pulgas Road, your donations of building materials is Tax Deductible.

And a GREAT book….Not So Big Life written by Sarah Susanka discussing design and what we need in our life. She is also the author of the Not So Big House and several other home design books.

Sunset Open House

At the Sunset garden festival June 7-8 2008 in Menlo Park, CA, there were dozens of new green vendors.  This event is one of the best in the area and highlights gardening, organics, travel, building, and has many great seminars. Look for it in early June. There was a great presentation about bio-diversity and local wineries Sunset sponsors a well received Wine Club, it is important that they include additional information on this important topic.  Here is a general link for more information on biodiversity and organic wines http://www.ecowine.com/organic.html. Biodynamic farmers have started a “grass roots” organization as well.
